Giver of Strength

Day 6: God is our Giver of Strength

"Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who built it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. 2It is vain for you to rise up early, to retire late, to eat the bread of painful labors; for He gives to His beloved even in his sleep" - Psalm 127:1-2

If God is not supplying the power, we see, any activity of man is futile. And God supplies us even in our sleeping - He even gives to us in the mere ability *to* sleep! Whether we're scaling a wall or just doing laundry, we need to always be conscious of our need for God and His Holy Spirit in us to help us do these things for His glory (and not to mention our need for His help to keep us from just snapping or melting at pressure or irritation :) ).

Of course this was another day where God gave me a song to sing to Him and carry with me through the day. (As an aside, I have to say that I love whenever He brings a song to my mind, because music is such a part of me anyway and I am so much more likely to remember and chew on something throughout the day if it sticks in my head like a catchy tune does. I just remember things better when they're set to music!) This time, it was Gungor's song "Please Be My Strength", with a chorus that goes like this:
Please be my strength,
please be my strength,
'cause I don't have any more
I don't have any more

and the final chorus:
You are my strength,
You are my strength,
You and You alone,
You keep bringing me back home
Yes! This was the prayer on my lips all day - and actually has been in the back of my mind ever since that day, last Wednesday. When we feel self-sufficient or we feel we have no strength left at all, the only way we get through is when we summon our strength and willpower form God and a consciousness of Him. Sure, we can "do" things on our own and in our own power... but we can't do anything humbly without His spirit in us, we can't do anything for His glory and our ultimate satisfaction and benefit unless the Holy Spirit is in us. Then, with the Spirit, we can do so much *more* than just the things we did before in our own power! Just as Paul says in Philippians 4:13,

"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" !!!!!

What a loving God, that He gives us the strength we need to glorify Him and ultimately find our complete satisfaction! Praise Him that He is our strength today!
